Q & A
What does Islam say about being friends with non-muslims? Is that allowed? Are there people of any faith we should be keep associations with?

Asalam'Alaikum brother Ali.
You asked a very interesting question. Islam does allow Muslims to associate with other non-Muslims. Islam is a religion of peace so we should respect people of every background. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to greet non-Muslims everyday and tried to spread the message of Islam through peaceful ways. In fact, Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to receive and greet the non-Muslim diplomats ambassadors in the Mosque of Medinah (Masjid An-Nabawi). So if our Prophet (SAW) used to be this kind to people of other religion, we should do the same.
One thing to keep in mind is that Islam teaches humanity above all. Allah (swt) even mentions in the quran in several places that we should be kind and just(fair) with everyone...EVEN OUR ENEMIES.
"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah as witnesses to fair dealings and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just(fair), that is next to piety. Fear Allah, indeed Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." (Al-Ma'dah 5 :8)
Muslims are allowed to have non-Muslim friends AS LONG AS they keep their own faith and commitment to Islam pure and strong. Meaning, it's okay to be friends with non-muslims, but remember to not lose faith in Islam.
Allah (swt) says: "O you who believe! Take not for protectors (awliya') your fathers and your brothers if they love unbelief above faith. If any of you do so, they are indeed wrong-doers." (Al-Tawbah 9: 23)
Be kind to everyone, be respectful to everyone. Try to help a person in need as our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to do. He was the kindest man to all, a mery to mankind indeed. I hope this will answer your question. I will be posting a video on the page so make sure to watch that video as well!
Pray for me and all of our brothers & sisters.
